When it comes to building a brand image and promoting awareness for your products and services, it is essential to provide a professional visual identity. Your logo is your main vehicle in creating the right initial impact and a long lasting impression in the eyes of your potential customers. A company logo design has the ability to make or break the whole image of any business organization. A strong design will increase the viewer's confidence, while an un-professional and poorly executed logo will deter most potential customers and have them pass you by in favour of your competitors. Imagine you were going to hire a salesperson to greet people as they walked into your business and try to sell them your products, would you hire the guy who looks clean-cut and wearing a suit or the one who came to you in a dirty pair of jeans and a t-shirt? Just like interviews, your logo needs to make a great first impression. A strong logo also serves as the foundation for the company's identity as a whole, from the website to all print materials, elements of your logo, whether it's the font or colours used, will flow into all the other elements.
It is tempting for small and start-up companies to use the cheapest and youngest designers to create their logo, but beware. There are many factors that need to be taken into account before electronic pen meets pixelated paper! For instance, what is your company's philosophy and personality? Which kind of potential customers are you targeting, where will the logo be used predominately and what "feel" do you want the logo to have; for instance futuristic or traditional, fast-paced or chilled-out, conservative or wacky!

Choosing the right company to design your logo will start you off on the right foot and provide a firm starting point from which to develop all your other promotional elements.
A professional design company will first attempt to gain a clear understanding of your exact requirements and the kind of image you would like to portray through a comprehensive briefing process. Once the briefing is complete they will create a first round set of logos for you to review. In some cases you may be able to choose a logo from that first round, but in most cases the design company will work through two or three rounds, by which time you should be able to drill down to the final logo.
Your new logo should 'speak' to people and whatever it says, you need to make sure it doesn't say "cheap" or any other message other than the one/s you wish to portray. A good design company will be able to deliver that for you.
